Esther meets Kalyk on the way to the first beast. Kalyk keeps his distance from Esther. Together they defeat the first beast. Esther finds the first memory fragment. The fragment is cryptic, but shows Esther and Kalyk still as children. Kalyk leaves Esther in the second city. Esther gathers information about the second beast in the city. With the information, he finds it faster and takes care of it without Kalyk. He also finds the second memory fragment here. Through the fragment, he now also knows how much the hunters order had controlled them.
Kalyk finds Esther after defeating the second beast alone. Esther already knows they are brothers through the fragment, and understands Kalyk. When he finds out that Kalyk needs him, since he can't go back to the Order without Esther - Esther offers to help, but tries to dissuade Kalyk from the Order.
The two can't agree on a plan to defeat the third beast - get in each other's way a lot. They part again, after an argument and Esther finds the nest of the third beast - but also the third fragment. Through the fragment, Esther learns about its second return. At that time Kalyk imprisoned him, and tried to persuade him to come back to the order. Esther broke out, however, and they fought.
Because of the fragment, Esther thinks that Kalyk just killed him - and searches for Kalyk and they fight each other. During the fight it comes out that Kalyk would never have killed him, not permanently. He used Esther's undeath to keep having new attempts to get Esther back. They understand that it is the pressure from the Order that has destroyed their relationship, and Esther begs Kalyk to run away with him, to try it all again. Kalyk finally turns away from the Order and together they defeat the third beast, burn the infected parts of the beasts and escape.
The good ending. Scene: At the mountaintop, overlooking the valley, overlooking the hunters orders complex. Esther and Kalyk gather all the infected cores together. They place them in a metal container and light it. Over the fire they speak. Esther convinces Kalyk to leave the hunters order. In a montage you see them on a train north, you see them hiking up mountains and fighting monsters again. Together. They do not wear their uniforms anymore, and Kalyk sometimes plays a flute as Esther cooks for them. The screen fades. A text appears: “END 5: FREEDOM”
