Two brothers fight to the death. A cycle of violence and death defines their lives as the older murders the younger repeatedly. The player, in control of the younger brother, has a chance to interrupt the cycle.
Both are hunters. The younger brother is respected by neither the older brother nor their religious hunters order. Seeking respect, he thinks to find the answer in the power of the corruption haunting their world.
The corruption threatens to turn the younger monstrous. Each time his older brother thought him to be lost for good - he murdered him, hoping to reset his brother.
Now he has come back for the third time. Can the player make it his last?
Topraka - the nation in which the game takes place - is plagued by an eldritch horror known as the Hunger. It takes over the bodies of creatures, controlling them, making them stronger but rotting their mind.
In order to fight the Hunger, hunters orders have formed. They keep themselves separate from the rest of society, disavowing emotion and art, dedicating their entire being to the hunt.
Esther and Kalyk joined the hunters order at a young age. Kalyk is older. He began his training earlier and found his place easily within the strictness of the hunters order. Esther never took well to their methods when he started training a few years later, but attempted his ideas anyway outside of the view of the hunters order.
The order didn't respect Esthers attempts, and so he tried to find stronger and stronger means of self enhancements, weapon upgrades, techniques - until he came across the strongest boost: the hunger itself.
He learned to harness the power of the Hunger to become stronger.
When the hunters order found out, they sent Kalyk after him to either change him or kill him.
Kalyk has killed Esther three times.
