This series is inspired by the indigenous communities that live in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia. It is important to always keep the roots in mind and these communities are the clearest example. Technique: acrylic on paper.
The palenqueras are a legacy of Afro-Colombian tradition. They are always seen smiling and friendly, they walk dressed in color through the streets of Cartagena de Indias, craving passers-by with exotic fruits that they carry in baskets on their heads.
The illustration is based on a photo of one of my favorite artists Jimena Reno. She is seen in a deep sleep within her thoughts.
The girl's expression is what most attracts attention, between sweetness and surprise.
